Puzzle Ninety-Five: Colorful Character (meta)

Easy (and small) one this time.

I had the Universal crossword back on February 18 if you want to backtrack, it should still be available.

The meta answer is a cartoon character. Entries are due at 12 PM, Friday, March 7.

Puzzle Eighty-Four: Take a Cue (themeless) + Midi Controller No. 2

Hopefully smooth-solving 66-word themeless today from a forthcoming pack of 10 themelesses on the Crossword app from Redstone Games.

And speaking of puzzle packs, the second issue of the Lexicon Devil midi crossword zine, Midi Controller, is here! It's fifteen 9x9 midis with a little Easter egg tying them all together. Your download will include a PDF of the zine that you can print out and staple yourself, as well as .puz files and individual PDFs. It's pay what you wish, but a little financial contribution always helps.

Puzzle Seventy-Five: October Quartet (midi-meta)

I can never resist doing a Halloween puzzle. If you're solving on November 1, just remember that the Halloween spirit lives in your heart all year long. You just have to believe in it.

Puzzle Seventy-Three: Returns Department (midi)

Hey everyone, the blog has returned after a couple of weeks of absence caused by my being locked out of my domain name registration company's account, making it impossible to renew the domain name after it expired.

Last month's contest meta, "Wide Body," proved challenging, and I never really enforced a deadline to the contest, because the blog went down before the deadline.

If you're a faithful follower of the contest meta, you'll know that I post the solutions in the Lexicon Devil subforum of the XWord-Muggles forum, because, to be blunt, it's easier to do there. But I wasn't able to do that for quite some time because I couldn't get access to *that* account either. Now that issue's fixed too. Hopefully everything is on track once again. In the meantime:

Puzzle Forty-Nine: Royalty-Free Music (meta)

The answer to this month's meta contest is a punk song from the 1970s.

Deadline: Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at 12 PM EST.

Please submit your answers here: https://forms.gle/MxHpwzAhCadPZYvW7

If you have any issues submitting, email me.

Don't forget to sign up for the Lexicon Devil mailing list, where I distribute the metas by email before putting them on the site. If you have any issues signing up, just email lexicondevillive at outlook dot com with the subject line "subscribe." (Google Groups really wants you to use a Gmail address to participate. As group administrator I can get around that if you can't.)

And I haven't mentioned donations lately, but if you enjoyed these puzzles over the past year, please consider making a small contribution via the tip jar. The donations I received at last year's end really helped with the cost of the stickers and postage (plus printer ink, paper, domain name costs, etc.)

Puzzle Forty-Four: Word Worms #1

Here's a new variety puzzle format I've been working on. It could be considered a smaller, gentler version of one of Patrick Berry's Trail Mix puzzles. Note the directions and enjoy.

Puzzle Thirty-Seven: Inktober Prompt Midi, October 19, 2021

Inktober is a "month long art challenge [in which] every day for the month of October anyone participating in the Inktober challenge creates an ink drawing and posts it online."

I made it to Day 5 this year before running short on time, ability, patience, and, literally, ink (I didn't know that you weren't supposed to use markers until Day 5, when I switched to a fountain pen that promptly ran dry and while I definitely have more ink around here somewhere, that doesn't mean I know exactly where it is...)

There are daily Inktober drawing prompts, and after checking today's, rather than finding that ink, I just based a midi crossword around it. Online only. Hope you enjoy.

Puzzle Twenty-Three: Cool Down (meta)

in my pandemic rave cave

Before we get started, I constructed this week's Spyscape puzzle, "Semper Occultus," and it's a pretty fun one with a little twist at the end. Give it a solve!

Now to the matter at hand: it's my second Quarantine Birthday today. To celebrate, there's a new contest meta. The answer to this week's meta is a three-letter word.

Submit your answer by clicking HERE.

Submissions are due by Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at 12:00 PM EST.

Two winners – the first person to submit a correct answer and another person selected at random from the correct entries – will receive a Lexicon Devil sticker as well as the respect of their puzzling peers.

If you have any issues submitting your answer, just put it in an email to lexicondevillive at outlook dot com with your name, preferred screen name / ID and email address and I'll add you in manually.

Don't forget to sign up for the Lexicon Devil mailing list, where I distribute the metas by email before putting them on the site. If you have any issues signing up, just email lexicondevillive at outlook dot com with the subject line "subscribe."
